My Favourite MacApps
It seems like everybody has their list of their favourite applications nowadays…
Here’s mine:
Free apps:
- http://quicksilver.blacktree.com/ — just use it!
- http://www.ragingmenace.com/software/menumeters/ — see your CPU & network usage in the menu bar
- http://www.markallan.co.uk/clamXav/ — free, regularly updated, antivirus
- http://www.caminobrowser.org/ — I’m trying this one out instead of Safari or Firefox (it has most of Firefox but better w/Mac)
- on second thoughts, Safari and Firefox still beat it hands down, Safari for speed and Firefox for developing
- http://www.skype.com — say hello with video and without a phone bill (we’ve used this to talk to my sister & parents in New Zealand)
- http://www.flip4mac.com/ — play Windows Media on Mac (Microsoft recommended)
- http://www.phil.uu.nl/~xges/ssh/ — graphical UI for SSH Agent (makes logging in over ssh much easier)
- http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ — play any kind of movie
- http://homepage.mac.com/julianmayer/smartreporter/index.html — early warning of disk failure
- http://www.islayer.com/index.php?op=item&id=21 — dashboard widget to show overall machine status
- http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_hill/brickhouse.html — easy control of your Mac’s firewall
Apps that cost a small amount:
- http://1passwd.com/ — stores web passwords in a cross-browser, Mac-friendly way
- http://www.mackiev.com/kid_pix.html — computer drawing for kids
